Welcome to Taco Guild, a culinary gem nestled within the historic walls of a deconsecrated church in Phoenix, Arizona. This unique venue, located at 546 E Osborn Rd, is not just about tacos; it’s an experience that beautifully marries the past with contemporary dining. Housed in a structure built in 1893, Taco Guild embodies a sense of nostalgia while serving innovative twists on traditional Mexican cuisine.

As you step inside, the ambiance captures your spirit: dim lights reflect off stained glass windows, and rustic wooden beams stretch overhead. It’s a setting that invites diners to relish in the celebration of food as a communal act. The warmth of the atmosphere paired with the enthusiasm of the staff creates an inviting spirit that feels reminiscent of home, making it a perfect destination for intimate date nights or gatherings with friends.

Now, let’s talk about the food. Taco Guild elevates Taco Tuesday with a gourmet selection that goes beyond mere sustenance. Each taco is a celebration of taste, using house-made corn tortillas that serve as the foundation for an array of add-on proteins—think brisket, cherry steak, pork belly, and even salmon—each expertly crafted and generously portioned. The brisket taco, for instance, doesn’t just deliver on flavor; it sets a new standard for what a taco can be, fusing savory and smoky notes that dance on the palate.

The sides are just as noteworthy, particularly the Street Corn Guild Style—a vibrant mix of habanero butter, crema, and cotija—each bite bursting with texture and spice. If you’re searching for a sweet ending, the Stuffed Churro and Key Lime Crème Brûlée provide delightful closures to your meal, balancing the boldness of the savory dishes with rich, comforting sweetness.

What’s more, the drink menu is equally impressive, featuring an array of local craft beers and signature cocktails like the prickly pear margarita. Each sip complements the robust flavors of the tacos, making Taco Guild not just a meal but a fully immersive dining adventure.

Guests rave about the attention to detail, both in the restaurant's ambiance and its culinary offerings. Anecdotes from diners speak to the hearty portions, the artisanal flair of each dish, and the welcoming, friendly service—qualities that coalesce to deliver a multi-sensory dining experience.

For those traveling through Phoenix or locals looking for a noteworthy night out, Taco Guild stands out as a must-visit destination. Whether you’re a taco aficionado or a curious newcomer, the remarkable interplay of flavors and atmosphere promises to leave a lasting impression. Remember: good food is never just about the meal; it’s about the memories created around the table. So gather your friends, bring your appetite, and prepare for a taco experience unlike any other.

This restaurant gave me hope that there are cute restaurants in Phoenix and it’s not just an endless sinkhole of chain restaurants. In fact, it is possibly the most unique place I have ate at in Phoenix in terms of atmosphere. The vibe is immaculate. All staff were very friendly and the restaurant was clean. There is a good selection of mixed drinks, and local draft beer. The empanadas were our favorite dish of the night. Although I enjoyed all of my tacos thoroughly and it was noted they hand make their corn tortillas. Prices are per taco so plan to spend about - depending on your party size and orders. But possibly the best surprise was how much meat was in each taco. I’m not sure I could eat more than 1-2 if I had a shared appetizer and dessert (but I also eat fairly small to moderate portions). If you’re looking for a bang for your buck, I’m not sure this would fit that bill. But it sure is a great place to take folks visiting from out of town for some delicious contemporary tacos, or a cute date night. I definitely plan to eat here again.

Drove by the building and thought to myself a church that says “tacos”. Yes please. Repurposing a church a that was built in 1893 into a taco restaurant was a great idea. I’m sure some people will say “sacrilege” when they see a bar inside the church. But rest assured this Methodist church has been deconsecrated and is no longer a house of God. The staff was friendly and the food was delicious. We ordered a brisket taco, cherry steak taco and the guacamole fries. The tacos and fries were delicious. Note: I would recommend going on taco Tuesdays and saving a few bucks; their tacos are gourmet and the price reflects this. They have a sign saying live music is played on certain nights as well.

Watch out for that pepper, even for heat lovers this one can sneak up on you and it lingers. Must get: street corn ON the cob and a prickly pear margarita. But the frozen margaritas are a local fave and you get more for your buck, it too has a punch and can linger. My favorite taco is the salmon but try them all until you find your favorite! I love the story and history behind this locally owned gem. Overall great experience every single time!

Category: Fine comfort food. We were tossing out ideas for Friday night dinner when a friend suggested Taco Guild, which was new to us. Glad she did. In another recent review of a church-turned-bookstore (in Obidos, Portugal) I said that all former churches should be repurposed as bookstores. I now believe that all former churches should be repurposed as either bookstores or restaurants. Both would be even better. Just as guilds built great churches of the Renaissance, the Taco Guild is building great tacos in one of Phoenix’s oldest churches, built in 1893. Outdoor tables are available on the dog friendly patio, but we dined inside, partly because we were dogless that night, and partly because our friend said it is really cool inside, which it is. The church apparently couldn’t decide what it wanted to be, welcoming worshippers of several different denominations over the last 12 decades. It now welcomes a different kind of parishioners on a nondenominational pilgrimage: food. Taco worshippers now enter through the parking lot side, rather than the front door used by the former denominations. The bar is to your right, where a different kind of altar once stood. Dining tables now stand where pews once laid. The lighting is low and moody, allowing guests to show proper respect for the food. A giant chandelier draws your eye upward, toward the soaring wooden rafters, beams, and tongue-and-groove ceiling. What appears to be the original stained glass with liturgical inscriptions fills the window openings. But my eye was drawn to the impressive mural paintings filling the friezes above windows. I don’t know if they were there when it was a church. If so, I’m even more impressed because the art is distinctly secular, mostly reproductions or imitations of Vermeer and Rembrandt. The menu offers many of the usual Tex-Mex suspects, but hey, we came for the namesakes. So for dinner we shared a bottle of wine from the small but well-curated and reasonably priced by-the-glass-list (we may have been the first people who ever ordered a whole bottle of wine)(there’s much more beer) and four generously portioned tacos: Chipotle Cherry Streak (excellent as is), Baja Fish (very good but it needs a sauce, like an Avo Crema), Salmon (excellent as is), and Brisket (great brisket and a very good taco, but again, it would benefit from a Crema of some sort). The live music, which is standard on Friday and Saturday night, rounded out our first, fun visit. We will be back, and this is the kind of place I could see becoming a regular. Such a cool experience! They lean into the old church vibe just the right amount. The inside was beautiful. The food was delicious and they had really unique flavors of tacos! If you buy 3 you get a side for free which was cool. The drinks were also REALLY good! If you want to go for dinner on a weekend, definitely make reservations! We got there at 6:30 on Saturday and had to wait 45 minutes. It was worth it though! The second we sat down we were brought chips and salsas and our food and drinks came out quickly. Our waiter was super friendly and attentive.

Came here by chance and had a great lunch. Our server was Ally(?) and she helped with some recommendations. For drinks I had Dos XX’s and water. I started off with guacamole that was very good; and complimented the various salsas they brought out with chips. Enjoyed them all. Then I went with the lamb taco on a flour tortilla. Generous portion served. The meat was very tender and juicy too. The side of corn was very good as well. The meal was filling, but not so filling that I couldn’t try the rum cake with ice cream and caramel sauce. That, I couldn’t finish; so I took it ‘To Go.’ I’ll definitely return as my friend had the cherry beef that he says was better than the pulled pork. Great time sitting outdoors on the small patio area. 6/3/25 hard to believe it’s been a year since last time coming here. Came with a few friends for lunch, and I had the chipotle cherry beef taco on my mind as my one friend raved about it the last time. I ordered that with their street corn, and the midtown mamba cocktail. The chips were great, and I enjoyed the three salsas brought out with the chips. The mango habanero (was it?) was incredible. The cocktail was tasty and refreshing. Our time there was very enjoyable. Loads of laughs. The service was fine. I can’t remember his name, but I called him Jimmy John for being freaky fast and freaky good. Hope to return again, but not after a year. It’s worth the drive from the West Valley.

This was my second visit to this incredible location, and I can confidently say that it just keeps getting better! Nestled in an old, converted church, the ambiance is steeped in history, creating a truly unique dining experience that you can’t find anywhere else. The architecture alone invites curiosity, and every corner seems to whisper stories of the past, setting the stage for a memorable meal. This time, we kicked off our culinary adventure with the ceviche, which was a vibrant explosion of flavor. The freshness of the fish paired beautifully with the zesty citrus, and the textures were simply delightful. Following that, we were treated to the bone marrow, a dish that was nothing short of divine. Its rich, buttery texture was complemented by perfectly toasted bread, making each bite an indulgence I won’t soon forget. Then came the tacos, which absolutely blew me away! I had loved them during my first visit, but they somehow managed to be even better this time around. They may be small in size, but they pack a serious punch when it comes to flavor and satisfaction. Each taco was a delightful creation, showcasing innovative combinations that the chef clearly excels at. It’s evident that the culinary team is truly passionate and skilled, making every dish a next-level experience. Our server Sophia was amazing. She was a genuine ray of sunshine, balancing her bustling workload while still making us feel special. Her recommendations were spot on, guiding us to dishes that complemented our tastes perfectly. It’s clear she loves what she does, and her enthusiasm added to the atmosphere, brightening up what already felt like a fantastic evening. Overall, each visit feels like an adventure, with new surprises and flavors waiting to be discovered. I can’t wait for my next trip back to this fantastic restaurant, as it continuously impresses me with its creativity and commitment to excellence!
